Chris Ware's "Fiction Versus Nonfiction"

I love these strips which give us insights into the creative process. Here in Chris Ware's Fiction Versus Nonfiction we get an insight into how representational characters, or cartoons, can sometimes capture the spirit of reality better than realistic work can.

Unfortunately this blog isn't conducive to showing Chris Ware's awesome page layouts. I think one of the geniuses of Ware is his page designs. They often actually contribute to the content of the story. In this case Ware has created this unique reading experience by arranging the panels to be read up to down rather than right to left. though it can be slightly confusing reading Ware's work at first, it soon becomes part of the fun trying to figure out how this new page will read. It's like coming upon some ancient glyphs that you have to decipher with a rewarding message in the end.
